Belief

Belief has a close relationship with forgiveness. And, if you're human, we all know that forgiveness can be a complicated journey. There's the choice to forgive. And then there's the process of forgiving.

Sometimes, when we've been wronged, our human-natured hearts will seek to make sense of the disappointment, the let-down, the break-up, the illness, the addiction, the divorce, the death, the idea of the person your heart chose, etc.

Sometimes, when I work with someone stuck in the process of deep grief, I will say, "it sounds like choosing forgiveness feels like it wipes away what was done, as though all the pain of the aftermath you are left with is meaningless. Your heartbreak is real, and so is your loss. The betrayal, the let-down, the abuse, none of this makes sense. I hear you've been in deep surrender, simultaneously torn by how to make sense of it all."

"How might it feel to surrender, making sense of what does not make sense. I see you, friend, and I am here with you. I believe in your ability to overcome and rediscover your joy. And, until the surrender part feels lighter, I will hold space for your belief and trust to be redeemed. I'll keep it for you. I believe in you."
